Low-fare airline easyJet has announced the destinations it will fly to from Southend next year.

From April 2012, the no-frills carrier will offer services from the Essex airport to Amsterdam, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro in Portugal, Ibiza, Malaga in southern Spain and Majorca.

With starting fares from £23.99, tickets went on sale today.

Catherine Lynn, easyJet's customer and revenue director, said: "This is an exciting time to be launching our routes from our newest UK base. The airport is in a fantastic location just outside London with a fast rail link into the city."

Southend airport's managing director Alastair Welch said: "The announcement of the routes really brings to life the exciting development of our airport."
