Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. You probably didn’t realise that it was British Sandwich Week – and, well, why would you? But by way of marking this crucial annual event and also to recognise the importance of the humble sandwich in our daily lives, we thought that today we’d write up one of our favourite UK cafés – namely the Wild Café in Bath, which not only serves a mean sarnie but lots of other delicious things besides.
Tucked away down a side street just south of Queen Square in the centre of the city (look out for the blue bicycle outside), this airy, whitewashed café serves all sorts of British classics from its open kitchen throughout the day. They are nice people and we like their style, making everything themselves and using only local suppliers; they vary their menu with the seasons, and the café runs on 100% renewable energy; and, hey, the food’s not bad either!
Try the rabbit pie or falafel burger, a hot sausage salad or crab on toast. Plus they also serve a great breakfast and a famous all-day brunch, which includes our favourite fruit pancake stack and eggs all sorts of ways. And the sandwiches? You’ll just have to visit to try them…
