Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Every week, Jack Sheldon from Jack’s Flight Club selects a flight deal from the UK for Independent readers that you can’t afford to miss. This week: Canada from January to May, from £316.
Air Transat is an airline most people don't know about on this side of the pond, but it’s making quite a splash in North America, having won the Skytrax award for best North American leisure carrier for five years running. At the moment it’s offering some brilliant fares on non-stop routes from London, Manchester, and Glasgow to Canada from £316 return. And Business Class flights start from just £834 return.
These fares are available on various dates throughout the ski season for those keen to go a bit further than the Alps this coming winter. Air Transat is a full service airline, so meals and checked bags are all included in your ticket price as well.
How to book
Availability is scattered from January to May 2018, so the best way to find your ideal travel dates is to input your desired route into Google Flights. Allow for their calendar tool to load and identify the best travel dates – these should have the lowest fares and will be highlighted in green.
Once you've selected your ideal travel dates, simply go directly to airtransat.com, re-enter the same itinerary and book directly with the airline.

Pro tip
While this does not work with all airlines, Air Transat does allow you to make an affordable “open-jaw” itinerary and fly into one city and out of another. If you'd like to see more than one side of Canada, you can choose a multi-city itinerary option in Google Flights, then select your route to fly into Vancouver, for example, and out of Toronto. The fare should be roughly the same and all you'll need now is a cheap internal flight to see both sides of the country.
If travelling to Vancouver, try to check out Victoria on Vancouver Island and visit Goldstream Provincial Park. Some stunningly scenic hikes, I promise.
