Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Every so often, Jack Sheldon from Jack’s Flight Club selects a flight deal from the UK for Independent readers that you can’t afford to miss. This week: return flights to California for £241 return.

This week, there are some good fares on British Airways from northern UK airports to California. There are some direct routes from London too, but as competition is much lighter outside the capital, it's harder to get a good deal from regional airports.

Scotland is especially well-represented in this deal. The Inverness route to Los Angeles looks particularly good thanks to its Air Passenger Duty exemption.

Dates span the winter months with some availability in early summer too.

How to book

Head to Google Flights and enter either your departure airport from the list below as your departure, and your choice of either Los Angeles or San Francisco as your destination. You may want to add a “Oneworld” airline filter to the search, to help find the dates included in this deal.

Use Google Flights’ calendar tool to help you highlight the best travel dates (they’ll show up in green).

Once you’ve found your travel dates you can book directly with the airline, or for the lowest fares search the dates on Skyscanner and book with an online travel agent (OTA). Some OTAs also let you add a bag for less than the £80 return charged by the airline.
