Australia agenda: Australia’s indigenous musicians to be awarded at the inaugural NIMAs

(National Indigenous Music Awards)

Dubbed the “ARIAs of Indigenous music,” the NIMAs strive to honor outstanding members of Australia’s vibrant indigenous music scene. The awards will be headlined by ARIA Awarded artist Dan Sultan and a host of legendary aboriginal musicians.

This year, Darwin’s annual Indigenous Music Awards is evolving from a local festival open to only Northern Territory-based musicians into a national event that celebrates the achievements of indigenous people living Australia-wide. The first edition of the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) is a peer-nominated award that recognizes "excellence, dedication, innovation and outstanding contribution to the Indigenous Music Industry." The NIMAs are held under the stars in the historic Darwin Amphitheater and will include performances from indigenous rock-bands Warumpi, Coloured Stone and No Fixed Address.

Mercedes-Benz Sydney Fashion Festival

The Sydney Fashion Festival features ticketed fashion events for the public, showcasing Australia's leading designer brands and retailers as their Spring/Summer Collections collections arrive in stores throughout the city. The main fashion shows are held in the Sydney Town Hall and are accompanied by a satellite schedule of fashion and lifestyle events that span the city. The Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is Australia's most globally-followed fashion event but, like the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, the Mercedes-Benz Sydney Festival is popular with the locals as it is open to the public.

7th Annual Gluten Free Expo

In the first week of September, Australian fashion is in the spotlight again during the seven-day-long Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW). Melbourne Spring Fashion Week includes more than 100 free and ticketed public events ranging from street parades to markets, workshops and fashion shows. Melbournites can snap up a bargain at one of the many MSFW sales or watch a fashion parade hosted by their favorite fashion retailer. The event is smaller than the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week or the Sydney Fashion Festival but well-loved by buying consumers.

Melbourne Fringe Festival

The Melbourne Fringe Festival is a city-wide celebration of independent creativity that traverses the boundaries of art, cinema, theater, dance, fashion and music.
