Mood
If you're looking for a big and busy but upmarket all-inclusive place that has a Caribbean-style Magic Kingdom for children, and sports facilities and a spa for parents - all neatly sited on a "new" laid-back island - this is about as good as it gets.
Beaches
Grace Bay is a 12-mile crescent of stunning white sand. It's protected by a turquoise lagoon which is inhabited largely by birds - as well as Jojo, a wild dolphin who has become the island's mascot.
Activities
The new children's kingdom is so good that adults try to sneak in there too. The attractions include a pirate ship, Robinson Crusoe island and waterslides. A nursery and kids' clubs operate all day, including free tuition in tennis and watersports (plus diving for over 12s). And, there's a Sega Centre with new Dreamcast games.
Refuelling
There's virtually 24-hour dining (and snacking) to be had at Beaches, thanks to a grand selection of nine restaurants. The choice of food ranges from all-American burgers and chips to more healthy Oriental dishes.
Out and About
The British Crown colony's low-key attractions include a conch farm and an island iguana sanctuary. Cycling is an easy way to explore on land, while boat trips give access to snorkelling and diving. Visits to other cays are a highlight.
Sample Price
Virgin Holidays (01293 617181) offers all-inclusive packages with scheduled flights from £1,379 a week for adults (half price for children) but keep an eye out for the introduction of charter flights, which will reduce prices.
