Perhaps the question might be better phrased as "where's not so hot?". Dubai simmers down in September, the searing heat of summer subsiding to a more comfortable average in the low 30Cs.

It's the ideal climate for camel racing, which gets under way at the Al Marmoum Racetrack (dcrc.ae) next month; or exploring the city from the newly opened Hues Hotel (00 971 4 236 5566; hueshotel.com) on the Corniche, close to the souks.

Expedia (0330 123 1235; expedia.co.uk) is offering a four-night room-only stay at the hotel for £555pp, with Royal Brunei Airlines flights from Heathrow on 28 September.
