OVERVIEW

VEINTIUNO offers a bed, breakfast and a base to explore Vegueta, the Gran Canaria capital's original neighbourhood. There are larger hotels elsewhere, but what VEINTIUNO lacks in size; it makes up for in character. Follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus whose Atlantic voyage of discovery saw him drop anchor nearby.

OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

VEINTIUNO is named as its address is Espíritu Santo 21. The Mercado de Vegueta, the island's oldest market, is close by. It is 20 minutes from the terminal floor to the hotel door along the GC-1. Vegueta is the heart of the city and a popular venue for the capital's cultural calendar dates. Learn about Christopher Columbus at the Casa Museo de Colón, the residence of the Spanish Governor who received him in 1492.

By plane: flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Gran Canaria take around 4 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a 20-minute taxi ride from the airport. Book flights to Gran Canaria.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

While the barrio has its origins in the Middle Ages, Hotel VEINTIUNO is altogether a younger establishment. The property is nonetheless a period one, dating back to 1780. The floor is the original stone and family heirloom paintings on the walls only add to the historical lure of the hotel.
