A Plate With A View: Chikito, Granada
THE PLATE
Chef Antonio Torres is rightly proud of his presentation, but there's substance too. Start with the ensalada de pimientos asadas (grilled pepper salad, fortified with Cantabrian anchovies). The meat speciality sounds forbidding (rabo de toro: braised oxtail stew), but is succulent in its rich, subtle sauce. The bacalao (fried cod, garnished with garlic and red pepper) breaks into flakes at the slightest touch. Finish with pinononos - vanilla and caramel roulades spiced with aniseed.
THE VIEW
The Batallas fountain across the square is a popular meeting point for city folk. A little further on is the magnificent Renaissance cathedral.
THE BILL
A typical three-course meal, including service and a decent table wine, is around €35 (£25) per head.
