Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It may be the winter sports capital of the Austrian Tirol, but for anyone who loves the outdoors, Kitzbühel casts its spell all summer long too. As soon as it sheds its layers of snow, this beautiful resort becomes an Alpine wonderland with its own matchless style – a medieval village filled with enticing shops and cafés set against a dramatic backdrop of breathtaking mountain scenery.

Wonderful walks

With more than 1,000km of marked trails stretching across the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbüheler Horn, hikers are well catered for. As you wander past mountain streams and alpine meadows, you can bask in views of Wilder Kaiser. For an unforgettable experience, head to Bichalm Kneipp where you can wade into cool, refreshing pools of water while enjoying fabulous mountain vistas.

Get active

Get on your bike and explore some of the 1,200km of cycle trails around Kitzbühel. Enjoy lazy bike rides at lower altitudes, or let rip on some of the 800km of exhilarating mountain biking trails. Road cyclists won’t want to miss the famous Tour of Austria ascent to the Kitzbüheler Horn. If you want the thrill of the hills but need a bit of pedal power, rent an electric bike and broaden your horizons.

My Kitzbühel

Kaspar Frauenschuh, fashion designer

“People ask me what makes the clothes I design recognisable. My answer is that they are authentic. Even up in the mountains I have met people who have said to me, ‘I saw someone 50 metres away wearing one of your ski suits’. If someone really wants to own an item of Frauenschuh clothing, then that’s the greatest recognition I can get. A jacket like ours can be handed down from one generation to the next.”

With daily scheduled flights to Innsbruck from London Heathrow and London Gatwick, as well as services from Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool, it’s easy to discover the Austrian Tirol.
