Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

This cook book is written by kids, for kids which means the recipes are all things that children will enjoy and they avoid typical adult faux pas such as cutting chunks of onion too big – yuk!

The cartoon style instructions will engage little cooks, and there are wacky projects such as the the kick'n'roll tin can ice cream: pack a large tin can with the necessary ingredients and kick it to the park or round the garden and within 25 minutes you have homemade ice cream.

There are warnings throughout the book of epic fails to avoid and stages which require an adult. We enjoyed the chapter on “how to not chop off your finger and cool other tips”, although we were disappointed that the advice on “how to avoid a crisis” was not applicable to our wider life choices.

We knuckled down and made some guacamole, which was a good test as our little chef was adamant that he did not like avocados. So we wanted to see if his involvement of cooking with the dreaded fruit (yes, it is a fruit) would help him change his mind. It worked a treat, the little chef was eating the avocado even before we had finished the recipe and the final result was delicious!
