In the quest to gain headlines and break a Guinness World Record, Nokia created "Gulp," the world's biggest stop-frame animation - and it was shot using a smartphone.

It's not Nokia's first attempt at a record breaking film: the company shot the world's smallest stop-frame animation, " Dot," using a Nokia N8 and a macro lens back in 2010.

Both animations were created in collaboration with Aardman animation and Wieden + Kennedy.

To break the Guinness World Record, Nokia took a trip down to the Pendine Beach, Wales, and used cranes to suspend N8 smartphones over hand-crafted sand sculptures and a life-sized boat.

"[T]he largest scene in the film stretches over 11,000 square feet - that’s nearly as big as two tennis courts joined together,” said Nokia in a post on its Nokia Conversations blog.
