Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A pilot has posted a picture of a haul of 195,000 iPhones he flew out of China on Monday, one of 20 – 30 loads of the new smartphone coming out of the country daily, he estimates.
They are tightly packed into cargo holds, with this batch weighing about 256,000 pounds and being worth between £105,105,000 (if they're all lowest cost iPhones 6s) and £153,855,000 (if they're all highest prices 6 Pluses)

"Yep, that's what I do. I fly stuff. Privileged to be a small part of the Apple supply chain. Just landed a 747 full of iPhone 6's in Anchorage. Another crew will take the airplane on to Chicago. It'll be on the ground at O'hare about 9am Sept. 15. I gave it a little extra gas coming over the Pacific, just to get them here a little quicker. You're welcome."
When another user suggested 195,000 wasn't going to meet the demand, he added: "Believe me, this is not the only airplane hauling them Apples. I'm guessing about 20 - 30 heavy's a day coming out of China with just iPhones for this launch."
The iPhone 6 and and its taller brother iPhone 6 Plus arrives on 19 September in three colours: gold, silver an space grey.
