SpaceX Falcon 9 finally lifts off with six satellites

After a delay of three aborted attempts over two months, SpaceX finally saw its Falcon 9 rocket shoot into space.

The rocket successfully placed six small commercial communication satellites into orbit for the company Orbcomm Inc.

The 68-metre tall Falcon 9 took off from Cape Canaveral at 11:15 on Monday.

The launch of the rocket has plagued SpaceX in recent months due to technical problems and the weather in Florida.

The six new satellites will create stronger and faster communication for Orbcomm's customers and the company is hoping to launch 17 satellites overall as part of a $230 million plan.

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, tweeted that the launch had been a success:

However, Musk later wrote that they "lost hull integrity right after splashdown (aka kaboom)," and that a "Detailed review of rocket telemetry needed to tell if due to initial splashdown or subsequent tip over and body slam".
