Colombian singer Shakira pushed talk show host Oprah out of tenth place on Twitter's list of most followed microbloggers during the week ending May 23.
The pop singer has been accruing hoards of fans on Twitter, sharing photos and posting a teaser for her latest music video "Rabiosa," in which she forgoes her usual bleached blonde locks in favor of a dark brown bob and a tight minidress.
Celebrities on China’s microblog have also been upping their fan counts over the past week.
South Korean actor Jung Kyung Ho and Chinese actress Xie Na both surpassed the 6 million followers mark during the week.
Taiwanese TV host Kevin Tsai has slipped ahead of American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres this week with 6.76 million fans to her 6.71 million.
In September 2010, Twitter had 175 million registered users, while Sina reports that Weibo had more than 80 million registered users in January 2011.
