Reddit down: Site not working and failing to load for some users
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Reddit has stopped working for some of its users.
The site, which describes itself as the front page of the internet, is not loading properly for some people who visit it.
Thousands of affected users complained on rival social networks like Twitter that the site was failing to appear.
But others are able to access it as normal.
Some also found that visiting the "old" version of the site – which can be accessed through a special URL – worked when the newer one did not.
Outage tracking website Down Detector showed a steadily climbing number of reports in recent hours, with huge numbers of people complaining they were unable to access pages.
Problems were particularly reported from Europe and the US, but that may simply reflect the location of people who were attempting to access the site.
Reddit's official page was first updated to indicate it was aware of the issue. Later, another update was posted to indicate the "issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented".
