Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Civilization V's historical strategy and Dead Rising 2's zombie mayhem proliferated themselves throughout the week's download charts by the time that Monday, October 4 rolled around, while one of the system's enduring classics Planescape Torment was also well received upon its official re-release in downloadable form.
Civilization V was greeted by a red carpet of extremely high scores from many reviewers, including top marks from the experts at Giant Bomb, Joystiq, and The Onion AV Club among others.
Though Civ V is absent from GamersGate's store, like many others it does have a back catalogue of previous titles in the series, all of which are known for both playability and attention to detail.
Dead Rising 2 is almost the complete opposite in its approach to gaming (though, thankfully, not too much different in terms of critical appraisal). Zombies are taking over the world and it's up to DIY weaponsmith Chuck Greene to slay a metric tonne of them in his quest to secure enough anti-zombie medicine for his daughter.
Good Old Games relaunched its service on September 23, celebrating with the re-release of one of the PC's most cherished role-playing games, Baldur's Gate. Many fans of classic gaming crossed fingers for an announcement regarding another cult favorite, Planescape Torment, and sure enough it appeared shortly after.
Next week, expect to see a lot more of Medal of Honor in the lead-up to an October 12-14 release, stealing a march on upcoming releases for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Bad Company 2: Vietnam.
