From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Just about everything in Apple's line-up will be getting updated, according to the report. Not only will long-awaited new products arrive – such as the AirPower charging mat – there will be multiple new Mac computers and iPhones, it suggests.
Three of the products will include entirely new designs, claimed Ming-Chi Kuo in the new report. Each of those are Macs: there will be a large MacBook Pro that could have up to a 16.5-inch display, a big new monitor and an all new Mac Pro to go alongside it.
Apple has already revealed that it is working on a new Mac Pro – the first in years – though it did not say when that would arrive or give any more details on what it might look like. It also said the design would be "modular", suggesting that it would be separate from its screen and so implying that Apple would build a display to go alongside it.
As well as those Macs, Apple is preparing three new phones, which will slot in the same place in the line-up as the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max. New features will include a redesigned "frosted glass" casing, as well as better batteries and Face ID sensors.
Apple is also planning to introduce a strange reverse charging feature with the new phones, the report also claimed.
Other new charging products will include the long-awaited release of the AirPower charging mat. That was first shown off in 2017, as a wireless charger that could power up AirPods, an iPhone and an Apple Watch at the same time – but despite the promise it would come soon, nothing has been said about it since, and some have even suggested it might not be coming at all.
The AirPods themselves will also receive an update. They will include wireless charging capabilities and improve Bluetooth – and might also feature a whole range of other more exciting upgrades.
Both the AirPods and AirPower mat are expected to be released in the first half of the year. Apple almost always releases new iPhones in September, and it is not clear when the Macs will arrive.
