Moto X4: A surprisingly cheap smartphone packed with great features

The handset is attractive, water-resistant and has a promising set of cameras

Motorola has launched the Moto X4, a mid-range smartphone that offers lots of great features at an affordable price.

Compared to many other phones that have launched recently, the X4 is really small.

That’s thanks to its 5.2-inch screen, which is very easy to use one-handed.

With a Full HD resolution, the display is nice and sharp – ideal for watching TV shows and films on.

Its glass and metal body is simple and attractive, though the chunky camera bump at the back is slightly annoying. That's something that the very similar Samsung Galaxy A5 doesn't have.

The chunk houses a 12-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor, which combine to capture pictures you can quickly tweak by playing with depth effects.

At the front is a 16-megapixel selfie camera, which is plenty of firepower for shareable vanity shots.

It’s also dust- and water-resistant and comes with Alexa, Amazon’s highly rated voice assistant, on board.

The 3,000mAh battery should easily be able to last a full day, and you can also recharge it really quickly thanks to TurboPower.

Motorola says 15 minutes of charging will get you up to six hours of battery life.

What’s more, it also has a fingerprint sensor and a microSD card slot, which you can use to boost the 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.

The Moto X4 is available in black and blue colour schemes, and will cost €399 (£370) when it comes out in September.

That’s around half the price of current flagships, which are more powerful and better-looking, but otherwise very similar in terms of capabilities.
