Motorola launches Moto X Force with ‘unbreakable’ screen

Using what it calls ShatterShield, Motorola claims that the phone won’t smashed when dropped — which happens every two seconds, according to research

Motorola has unveiled its Moto X Force, a phone with a screen that it claims is impossible to smash.

The company is so confident that the phone can’t be smashed in normal use that it has guaranteed the screen for four years. If it breaks within that time — and hasn’t be deliberately smashed — Motorola will replace the phone.

The phone is made using a technology called ShatterShield, which features a screen protecting layer that can be replaced as well as two layers of normal touchscreen.

It was unveiled alongside a video showing Motorola Mobility’s president, Rick Osterloh, picking up two other competitors — the iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy S6 — and dropping them onto some tiles and watching them smash. He then did the same with the Moto X Force, which survived the drop.

Otherwise the phone is largely in keeping with other recent Motorola phones. It features a 5.4-inch Quad HD display, two high-megapixel cameras on the front and back and a battery that the company claims will last up to 48 hours.
