Michael clashes with Amber and Amy is in tears in preview of Love Island latest episode

ITV Hub stopped working in the middle of Love Island's most dramatic episode of the season.

Viewers reported that adverts kept skipping and repeating and that it wasn't possible to watch the latest action from the villa.

Instead, people were forced to look at an Aviva advert that had played during the break, according to various reports on Twitter.

"Apologies #LoveIsland fans!" the official ITV Hub account tweeted. "We’re experiencing some technical issues and hope to have it fixed ASAP. Thanks for your patience so far."

Soon after, the same account tweeted to make clear that the problem had been fixed. But it still left online viewers missing a large part of the show, and those discussing it on social media.

"#LoveIsland fans - we’re back! Please refresh your browser and hit play again. Apologies for any inconvenience," it posted.

Unlike BBC iPlayer, it is not possible to rewind a live show on ITV Hub. That means that the only way to catch up on what happened during the outage will be to wait until it is posted to the on-demand part of the service and can be skipped through.

Watching through the traditional ITV 2 channel on TV continued to work.

But those watching online instead were treated to crashed adverts and were unable to keep up with the show's most dramatic episode of the season.

Others went to dramatic lengths to keep up with the show, streaming it over the internet from other people's houses.

The outage came just as the show had teased that Amy was about to discuss the shock decision of Curtis – with whom she was in a much-admired couple – to pursue other women within the villa.

The fallout from that development, as well as other clashes in the wake of Casa Amor, had meant that the episode was probably the most anticipated and dramatic yet, promising the resolution to a series of arguments that threaten to split the villa.

In previews of the show, Love Island producers had teased that there would be intense arguments between both Curtis and Amy and Michael and Amber, two of the show's most admired couples who both looked set to be driven apart by its latest developments.

Some on Twitter joked that the atmosphere inside the Love Island villa had been so intense that the on-demand streaming service was unable to cope.
