The new iPhone could come in a whole host of new colours.

Apple's latest update to the iPhone XR – the cheaper, more bright version of the phone, which was first released last year – will bring yet more colours, according to numerous rumours.

The XR is already offered in a variety of hues: white, black, blue, yellow, coral and red.

Those vibrant hues were the first time that colour returned to the iPhone line in earnest since the iPhone 5C, marking a departure from Apple's usually fairly austerer colours.

Now Apple is planning to offer two more, according to rumour website Mac Otakara. It will still offer six colours in total, but those will change slightly.

The company will introduce new green and lavender colours, according to the report. They will be swapped in for the coral and blue colours, with the rest staying the same.

Apple has not offered a lavender version of the iPhone before. It did offer a green version of the iPhone 5C, the last time such colours were available in the iPhone line-up.

In the same report, Apple were said to be introducing new cases for the iPhone XS and XS Max, which come in only three simple colour options. The silicone cases will come in white, black, red and new shades that are similar to the spearmit and mellow yellow colours, the blog reported.
