The company said iPad users had downloaded more than 12 million software applications from its App Store and 1.5 million electronic books from its iBookstore. The milestone of one million sales took less than half of the 74 days it took to sell the same number of iPhone handsets. Mr Jobs said: "Demand continues to exceed supply."
Apple was forced to delay the worldwide launch of the iPad last month, blaming the heavier than expected demand from the US. It plans to announce international prices next week and to have iPads on the shelves by the end of May.
