Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

People attempting to access an extreme anti-LGBT Christian website will instead land on a hardcore gay porn website, all because of a web-savvy Reddit user.

The anonymous person was attending the Carolina Rebellion heavy metal music festival in the US, when he spotted an anti-gay protester on a grass verge outside the enclosure.

The man was clutching a poster reading: “There is no relief in hell! WarningsofWrath.com".

Visiting the WarningsofWrath website, the Reddit user noticed the domain had expired even though it was still being advertised on placards.

So, the Reddit user decided to seize the chance to send those attempting to visit the WarningsofWrath to the ScaryF*ckers.com hardcore porn website.

“Fair?” the user asks on the Reddit post.

Earlier this year, a gay couple who described themselves as high-tech, nerdy bears, bought a website which could be used to campaign for Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush if he decides to run in the 2016 US presidential elections.

CJ Phillips and Charlie Rainwater from Portland, Oregon bought the domain for JebBushForPresident.net in a bid to raise awareness of issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.
