The long-awaited launch of Fortnite Season 8 has not gone exactly to plan, with players experiencing a number of issues with the hugely popular battle royale game.

Fortnite developers Epic Games acknowledged the problems in a series of tweets shortly after the latest season's release.

Among the issues were a malfunctioning 'auto-run' feature and material not dropping properly on eliminations.

Another issue was with the game's Music Blocks. "We’re aware of an issue in Creative causing Bass Synth notes to disappear from created Islands," Fortnite tweeted.

"Please avoid loading onto any of your Islands that contain Music Blocks while we investigate."

The latest update to the game comes with a redesigned map, as well as new weapons and challenges.

"Your adventure awaits in Season 8," Epic Games announced on Thursday. "The more you play, the more rewards you unlock. Level up faster by completing Weekly Challenges to unlock additional rewards like Outfits, Wraps, Emotes, Pets and more exclusive cosmetics."
