Some impressive offers from US retailers have been leaked, but British businesses are keeping their Black Friday deals under wraps

This year's Black Friday is set to be the biggest ever (again), with British shoppers expected to spend more than £1 billion in a single day for the first time ever.

According to research from Experian and e-retail industry association IMRG, Brits will spend £1.07 billion this Black Friday, which falls on 27 November.

That's a huge increase on last year's sum of £810 million.

As IMRG managing director Justin Opie said, the scale of Black Friday took retailers by surprise last year, with some unable to keep up with demand.

This year, the bigger retailers will be ready, and more shops will be taking part - resulting in a spend equivalent to £16 for everyone in the UK in a single day.

So far retailers have managed to keep their deals a secret - there haven't been any leaks, and it's likely that most of the offers will stay that way until the last minute.

However, rumours of some big discounts in the US have surfaced online.

Dell's Black Friday poster has been leaked, showing an Inspiron 14 laptop on sale for $150 (£97) - a huge 50 per cent discount, just for Black Friday.

One of their big deals that has grabbed gamers' attention is a 500GB Xbox One bundled with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Fallout 4 and two controllers - for the bargain price of $300 (£195), rather than the usual $470 ($304).

Dell has called these deals 'Doorbusters', and that's not just a catchy name - on both sides of the pond, Black Friday almost always results in fights, arguments and near-stampedes of shoppers in shops up and down the country.

While we might not know what Britain's best deals will be, there's a good chance that there will be huge discounts to be had in places like John Lewis, Currys and Amazon (which last year had a new flash deal every 10 minutes for the entire week of Black Friday).

Currys' website crashed last Black Friday under the sheer strain - so you can bet that they'll be better prepared this year.

As TechRadar reports, last year John Lewis sold a Nutribullet blender every 30 seconds on Black Friday 2014, and GAME reportedly sold discounted PS4 and Xbox One consoles at the rate of 3,600 an hour.

Retail stores like these do well on Friday, but those looking for deals should check out shops like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Argos and ASDA.


Argos and Tesco were the second and third biggest moneymakers respectively last Black Friday, and they're likely to want to repeat their success this year.

Of course, Black Friday generally makes the news for negative reasons - fist-fights in Tesco, half-mile queues and crying children.

But it's easy to avoid these, simlpy by doing all your shopping online. Some shops will have in-store only deals - after all, Black Friday began as a way for retailers to shift stock out of their stores.

However, there's still a wealth of offers online, and you won't have to get off the couch and brave the crowds to get them.

And with many other deals coming up during the festive period - Cyber Monday, Boxing Day and Manic Monday - there'll be plenty of chances to get your hands on cheap tech.
