Users said they were unable to get onto the internet banking app, seeing either a continually spinning loading screen or an error message.
Problems were reported across the country by thousands of affected customers, according to tracking website Down Detector.
A host of users asked the bank for help through its official Twitter account, but it was yet to reply.
But the official Barclays status page showed there was problems with both the mobile banking app and the one used to manage Barclaycards.
"We're sorry if you're having trouble logging in to our app – we're working to fix this," a message read. "You can still manage your account in online banking, and mobile pinsentry is fully available."
