From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A look at the most popular Facebook trends according to global popularity engine Likester for the week ending July 29.

The death of British singer Amy Winehouse has seen tens of thousands of Facebook fans head to her page to pay their respects. Since her death, close to a million additional fans have "liked" her page, putting her total fan count at just over 3 million.

While the Apple Inc. Facebook page may not have any posts on it, close to a million people have shown their appreciation for the brand by liking it on Facebook.

The release of Apple's next generation operating system, Mac OS X Lion, and a swarm of iPhone 5 rumors circling the web may have a large part to play in the brand's appearance in Likester's trends.

The films " The Departed" and " Casablanca" appear in first and second places in Likester's top trends for the week while Argentinian actress "Belen Rodriguez" is sixth on the list of trending Facebook pages.

The Facebook page of "Being Human," a charitable organization run by Indian actor Salman Khan, has surged in popularity this week too.

Likester categorizes its Facebook trends as "what people are liking now" in locations around the globe, for the last seven days.

The top Facebook trends for the week ending July 29 according to Likester:

  1. The Departed
  2. Casablanca
  3. Amy Winehouse
