The third in a three-part series of trailers for underground survivalist shooter Metro: Last Light has been made available, piecing together part of a video shown in private at June's Electronics Entertainment Expo.

The game is a tie-in to the Russian novel Metro 2033, which itself became an Xbox 360 and PC title in 2010.

Metro: Last Light was at one point known as Metro 2034 but was renamed in April, avoiding confusion with the associated book, which has its own distinct storyline.

Last Light looks just as claustrophobic and tense as its predecessor, capitalizing on a video game trend seen in titles such as Dead Space 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Dark Souls, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

There's no release date more specific than 2012 as of yet, though publisher THQ will be showing it off at the Gamescom expo, August 17-21, with a 12-minute trailer to follow.
