PUPILS from a Belfast school are today celebrating their success in a nationwide environmental competition.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary in Dunmurry beat off stiff competition to scoop first place in the Volvo Young Environmentalists Competition.

Two teachers and five pupils are due to jet off to Gothenburg in Sweden on May 1 to represent the UK at the prestigious international final where they compete against teams from across the world

The school has an eco-council comprising representatives, teachers, board of governors, ancillary and auxilliary staff.

However, it is the pupils who are the decision makers.

The school has already been awarded bronze and silver awards from the Eco-Schools Programme.

The main content of the pupils' entry was the preservation and conservation of bumble bees.
