From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sheffield Wednesday extended their impressive recent run of form with this goalless draw at Hillsborough. The result means David Pleat's side have lost just once in their last 17 League and cup games.

But it was a mediocre performance from Wednesday with the Coventry goalkeeper, Steve Ogrizovic, hardly required to make a save despite the home team's monopoly of possession.

The best chance of the game fell to Wednesday's Graham Hyde but the midfielder summed up the afternoon by blasting wide from 18 yards.

David Pleat kept faith with the same side that defeated Aston Villa and they certainly started brightly against a City side which included the new signing Gary Breen from Birmingham. Breen appeared unfazed on his Premiership debut but almost allowed Wednesday to open the scoring after just five minutes.

Mark Pembridge pounced as Breen dwelt on the ball for too long and set Andy Booth racing clear into the penalty area. Booth struck his shot well but fired agonisingly wide of veteran keeper Ogrizovic's near post.

Coventry had their chances and the in-form striker Darren Huckerby forced a superb save from Kevin Pressman. From the resulting corner Paul Telfer's low drive was just wide of Pressman's right-hand post.

Wednesday still applied most of the pressure and forced two corners in succession but Dejan Stefanovic was caught offside.

Guy Whittingham then produced a powerful run, shrugging off two City defenders before dragging his shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.

The second half saw little improvement in the quality but Hyde wasted the home side's best chance of winning when he collected a ricochet from David Hirst only to fire wide with the goal at his mercy.

And with McAllister missing a similar chance at the other end the game finished in a disappointing draw.
