Switzerland's Michael Von Gruenigen overcame warm temperatures and deteriorating race conditions in Park City, Utah to continue his giant slalom mastery on the World Cup tour with his third consecutive victory. The victory enabled Von Gruenigen to reclaim the overall World Cup lead from Norway's Lasse Kjus by 14 points. The defending champion Alberto Tomba, of Italy, missed a gate on the second run after finishing eighth on the first.

The weekend's re-scheduled women's World Alpine Cup giant slalom and slalom events at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, were cancelled because of excessively soft snow caused by warm temperatures.
