Ronda Rousey 'really f****** sad' about Holly Holm loss and reveals she still can't eat an apple due to injuries

Ronda Rousey will not take up her possible rematch with UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm anytime soon after admitting she is still “really f****** sad” about her defeat at UFC 193, and revealed that it could be months before she’s able to eat an apple, let alone be hit in the face.

Rousey suffered an emphatic knockout defeat to fellow American Holm in Melbourne last month, when she was handed her first loss in the Octagon after winning all 12 of her fights before.

Holm delivered a masterclass in boxing from range before rocking Rousey and ending the fight with a kick the connected with Rousey’s neck, and UFC president Dana White has promised that he will organise a rematch of the 13 November clash in what is likely to be the biggest fight ever seen in women’s Mixed Martial Arts history.

However, 28-year-old Rousey has given her first full interview since the fight, and revealed that because of the injuries she suffered that left her needing plastic surgery on her lip, she is still struggling to eat and it will be some time before she returns to the UFC.

Speaking in extracts taken from ESPN Magazine’s Ideals of the Year edition, which has been released by people.com, Rousey said: “It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact.”

She added that she was still “really f****** sad” about the defeat, nut has promised to return and defeat Holm.

"I need to come back," Rousey said. "I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I'm going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open again. I have to f****** do it. It doesn't matter. I have to do it."

Addressing the fight, which took place in front of over 56,000 people at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium in Australia, Rousey revealed that she was “embarrassed” by her performance and credited an early punch from Holm which landed in the first 30 seconds as her undoing.

Telling herself she would recover, Rousey attempted to fight on, but was clearly not at the races and the fight was ended in the second round when Holm delivered another punch and crushing head kick to win the title.

“I just feel so embarrassed," Rousey said. "How I fought after that is such an embarrassing representation of myself. I wasn't even f****** there."

While Rousey will appear on the front cover of ESPN magazine on Friday having won two ESPY awards for best fighter and best female athlete, Holm returned to her hometown of Albuquerque and received a hero’s welcome as thousands turned out for her arrival.

Holm has already echoed White’s calls for a rematch and has said that she will be happy to face Rousey again, although Rousey’s admission that she in not targeting a swift return suggests she could have to fight someone else before renewing her rivalry with Rousey.
