UFC 269 LIVE: Oliveira vs Poirier stream, latest updates and fight result tonight
In the co-main event, Amanda Nunes shockingly lost her bantamweight belt to underdog Julianna Pena
Charles Oliveira retained the UFC lightweight title by submitting Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 269 on Saturday night, capping off a thrilling night of fights in Las Vegas.
Former interim champion Poirier was challenging for the undisputed belt for the second time in his career, but the American’s newest venture ended the same way as his previous attempt – with the ‘Diamond’ losing via submission. Poirier (28-7) failed to unify the lightweight titles in 2019 as he tapped out to a rear naked choke against Khabib Nurmagomedov, who then fought once more before retiring and relinquishing the undisputed gold.
In the meantime, Poirier fought his way back to the top of the division with three straight wins, including two against old rival Conor McGregor this year. Meanwhile, Oliveira (32-8) claimed the belt vacated by Khabib, knocking out Michael Chandler in May to become lightweight champion. It all led to this highly-anticipated main event in the final UFC pay-per-view of 2021, and the in-ring action delivered on the hype, with a blistering fight ending in the third round as Oliveira submitted Poirier with a rear naked choke.
In the co-main event, Julianna Pena also won via rear naked choke, submitting Amanda Nunes in the second round to become women’s bantamweight champion. The result marked one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.

WOW! A first-round knockout to kick off the prelims!
Wright had Silva up against the cage and was landing some decent knees.
But Silva was able to create some space and started to wing shots, staggering his opponent with a right hand and left hook before finishing him on the mat!

As that last piece hopefully conveyed, Dustin Poirier is pretty good when it comes to conveying the magnitude of a moment.
That was no different this week as he spoke about tonight’s main event against Charles Oliveira.
“I [used to say] 25 minutes to make life fair. This is 25 minutes for eternity, 25 until eternity. That’s what this is. You don’t take that away. Once a champion, always a champion.”

UFC 269
Here’s our main event preview for UFC 269. It begins with a look back at the night Dustin Poirier became interim UFC lightweight champion in April 2016.
Six times, Dustin Poirier slapped the heavy gold belt around his waist. Just to check it was real.
Stood in the middle of the Octagon, the heat of the arena lights sweltering around his head, his face was a canvas shimmering with sweat yet – somehow – simultaneously dulled by bruises. Tears streamed into the cuts under his eyes.
The American’s chest was raw, a patch of stinging skin highlighting the words inked upon it: “Parker Noelle”, the name of Poirier’s young daughter.
“I feel like I’m in a dream right now,” a then 30-year-old Poirier told Joe Rogan and the enamoured crowd in Atlanta, Georgia.
“This is my belt. I earned this in blood, I paid in full. This is mine,” Poirier continued, as if still raging against some spectral force. Somehow, it seemed, the energy expended moments earlier in his 25-minute war with Max Holloway was not all that the American had to give.

Next up, another exclusive interview.
We spoke to former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt about his flyweight debut against Kai Kara-France this evening, as well as his friendship with cancer survivor Maddux Maple, and his three-and-a-half years without a win between 2017 and 2020.
“One thousand two hundred days of... lot of pain. A lot of soul-searching. There was a lot of good that came out of it, too, a lot of things that I had to change. And my son was brought into the world. I had some injuries that sidelined me for a while, so I got to spend time with him. Timing is everything. I was able to be there for the early months of his life, I learned a lot about being a father.
“I wouldn’t change anything. I would go through it all again.”
