Wimbledon: Emma Raducanu on why she 'couldn't say no' to playing mixed doubles with Andy Murray

Emma Raducanu returns to action on Centre Court today at Wimbledon when she faces the world No 9 Maria Sakkari, while her old junior rival Sonay Kartal, 22, takes on second seed Coco Gauff. Raducanu has produced some of her best tennis for some time and is looking to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time in her career.

First on Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz meets Frances Tiafoe, before Jannik Sinner rounds off the day’s play on Centre against Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic. Alcaraz and Sinner remain on a collision course for a semi-final clash, but the Spaniard will have to overcome his first major test.

Last night, a tearful Andy Murray was honoured in one of the final moments of his Wimbledon career. The 37-year-old was given a hero’s reception as he began his last appearance alongside his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles but the pair were beaten by Rinky Hijikata and John Peers. Murray still has mixed doubles to come with Raducanu but the All England Club took the opportunity to celebrate his historic career.

Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe serving well early on

Carlos Alcaraz* 1-1 Frances Tiafoe

Tiafoe with a powerful serve and a big backhand, before his forehand is placed right in the corner, forcing an error out of Alcaraz. 15-0.

Now a nice kick serve onto the line, and Alcaraz’s stretched reply comes up well short. 30-0.

Another serve proves too much for Alcaraz, whose return drifts beyond the baseline. 40-0.

And, just like Alcaraz, Tiafoe seals a hold to love with an ace down the T!

Big serve down the T now, and Tiafoe can only drag a forehand wide. 30-0.

Another error from the American, this one unforced, as he buries a backhand in the net. 40-0.

And an ace from Alcaraz seals a hold to love. Perfect start for the Spaniard!

Wimbledon 2024: Carlos Alcaraz continues title defence against Frances Tiafoe

While Paolini and Andreescu continue to battle on No 1 Court, Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe have just arrived on Centre Court.

Alcaraz, 21, has been flawless so far at SW19 this year, winning both of his matches in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Tiafoe fought back from two sets down in his opener before winning in straight sets in the second round.

The American, 26, has never been past round four at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon 2024: Jasmine Paolini and Bianca Andreescu in fun clash on No 1 Court

Jasmine Paolini* 2-2 Bianca Andreescu

This is just the 11th grass-court match of Paolini’s professional career, so she’s still finding her feet on this surface and had no Wimbledon wins before this year.

So far this afternoon, she’s showing her improvement. She holds serve to move ahead at 2-1.

And those improvements are on display again in this game, on Andreescu’s serve, as some mature volleying gives Paolini a 0-30 lead.

She fires a forehand just past the corner, though, to keep Andreescu in touch at 15-30. Andreescu moves into no-woman’s land and is beaten at the net, but again she claws back a point for 30-40.

Ace, and she saves another break point!

She moves to advantage, then holds serve against the odds by winning a really fun rally.

Wimbledon 2024: Jasmine Paolini breaks back instantly against Bianca Andreescu

Jasmine Paolini* 1-1 Bianca Andreescu

Andreescu has the power advantage, but Paolini has started to get some really nice depth on her groundstrokes, keeping her opponent on the back foot as much as possible.

With that, Italy’s Paolini earns advantage from deuce, and Andreescu puts a backhand into the net!

Paolini, the seventh seed, breaks back instantly!

Wimbledon 2024: Bianca Andreescu breaks Jasmine Paolini in first game

Jasmine Paolini 0-1 Bianca Andreescu*

Paolini with some tidy serve-and-volleying to get up and running at 15-0.

Great depth on a backhand return by Andreescu, though, and Paolini frames her own backhand into the net. 15-15.

More power from Andreescu, this time on the forehand, and another framed effort by Paolini – into the crowd! 15-30.

Backhand winner by Andreescu now, driven up the line for two break points in the opening game!

And the former US Open champion seals the break with another winner! This one comes on the other flank, as the Canadian drills a forehand up the line.

Wimbledon 2024: Jasmine Paolini faces Bianca Andreescu

Court No 1 stages the clash of Jasmine Paolini, the year’s French Open finalist, and Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion.

Paolini is one of the form players on the WTA this year and is looking to carry the momentum from a great clay-court season into the grass.

Andreescu’s results are improving after a difficult few years since her grand slam title, and whoever comes through this will have a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals, given the draw.

Taylor Fritz in fiery handshake after Wimbledon win: ‘Have a nice flight home’

Taylor Fritz told opponent Arthur Rinderknech to have a “nice flight home” in a fiery handshake after beating him to reach the third round of Wimbledon.

The American 13th seed was involved in a heated French Open clash with the Frenchman Rinderknech at Roland Garros last year, in which he shushed the rowdy home crowd after winning match point and was booed afterwards.

Rinderknech made reference to the match ahead of their Wimbledon meeting, and said in comments reported by French media: “The atmosphere will be quieter and he won’t cry as much.”

But Fritz won 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-4 and delivered a brutal put-down at the net as the players shook hands before revealing he had “extra fire” and motivation to beat Rinderknech after hearing his comments.
