Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Wimbledon finally gets underway on Monday after an extended hiatus Andy Murray set to follow Novak Djokovic on Centre Court.
The defending champion, who can equal Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s grand slam record, eased past Jack Draper in his opening match, though the 19-year-old Briton did take the opening set in a tremendous effort against the Serbian.
After defending champion Simona Halep pulled out due to a calf injury, the women’s draw has been left wide open, with several key contenders also beginning their campaigns on day one. Petra Kvitova, who won her first Wimbledon a decade ago, faces Sloane Stephens on Centre Court, while Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are both in action on Court One.
There is plenty more British interest, too, with men’s No 1 Dan Evans facing Feliciano Lopez on Court Two, while Heather Watson, Katie Swan, Liam Broady, Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Jay Clarke and Jodie Burrage all in action.
Here is everything you need to know:
