Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber will meet in the Wimbledon women’s singles final in a repeat of their Australian Open clash, with the German challenger reaching the showcase match without dropping a set throughout the championship.
Williams heads into the match as the heavy favourite, her claim to being one of the greatest tennis players of all time doing her plenty of favours with the bookmakers, but she suffered defeat the last time she met fourth-seed Kerber back in Melbourne.
On that occasion, Kerber and Williams battled it out in a three-set tussle that saw the German gain just her second victory over world No 1 Williams, and she also heads into the SW19 final knowing that Williams has played one set more after dropping the first in her second round victory over Christina McHale.
However, Williams will be refreshed from her 49-minute semi-final victory over Elena Vesnina, while Kerber managed to ease past Williams’ older sister Venus in the other semi.
Williams can move joint-second on the list of all-time Grand Slam winners a victory in what will be her ninth Wimbledon final that stakes her claims as the 'Queen of SW19'.

The women’s final gets underway on Centre Court on Saturday 09 July at 14:00.

The match will be shown live in its entirety on BBC One from 13:00, with highlights on Today at Wimbledon at 20:00 on BBC Two.

What’s at stake?
Serena Williams can win her seventh Wimbledon title and her 22nd Grand Slam championship, which would put her level with the second-placed Steffi Graf on the all-time Grand Slam winners’ list, headed by Margaret Court on 24.
Kerber meanwhile can win just her second major title after her victory in Melbourne in January.
