The British number one broke his Argentinian opponent early in the first set and never looked back.
He fell 2-0 behind briefly in the second set, but broke quickly to set up victory.
Henman now faces American Michael Chang in the quarter-finals.
He said afterwards that he kept a victory over Zabaleta in Miami in March as his focus.
Number two seed Henman said: "I kept thinking of Miami and tried to use memories of that to win.
"I was able to keep my ganme aggressive, the game plan worked well."
In other results, fifth seed Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador beat Kevin Kim of the US 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, third seed Nicolas Kiefer of Germany beat Australian Jason Stoltenberg 6-3, 6-2, and Chang, seeded eight, defeated Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-2.
