Henman, the No 3 seed, who was playing his first event since Wimbledon, was beaten 7-6, 7-5 by Moodie, who won the men's doubles in SW19 with Stephen Huss.

The British No 1 looked jittery under pressure, especially on his serve, in the second-round match.Games went with serve in the first set before Moodie took the tie-break 7-4. In the second set, Henman was 4-2 up after breaking to love in the first game, but then surrendered the advantage and dropped serve again to lose the match.

Murray won 6-3, 6-2 against Marc Kimmich, of Australia, in the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open. The 18-year-old Scot, who is seeded fourth, now plays the American veteran Cecil Mamiit.
