Tim Henman coasted through his first-round match in the CA Trophy indoor event in Vienna late on Monday night, winning 12 of the final 13 games in his 6-4, 6-0 rout of Wayne Ferreira.

Henman, the British No 1 and defending champion, beat the veteran South African for the second time this year, having won their semi-final at the Queen's Club tournament.

Pat Rafter has denied reports that he had pulled out of this month's Tennis Masters Series events in Stuttgart and Paris following the air strikes on Afghanistan. The world No 4 said that he still expects to play.

Monica Seles took her winning streak to eight matches yesterday with a 42-minute, 6-0, 6-0 victory over Slovakia's Lenka Nemeckova in the first round of the Kiwi Open hardcourt event in Shanghai. Seles has won her last two events in Brazil and Tokyo.
