Tennis: Graf keeps Novotna in check

Steffi Graf marched into her 19th successive final of a WTA tour event by beating Jana Novotna, of the Czech Republic, 6-3 6-3 in the Citizen Cup in Hamburg. Graf dominated against the world No 5, ending a short-lived rally by the Czech by breaking her serve to take a 4-3 lead in the second set. In the final Graf will play Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, the defending champion, who prevented an all- German final by beating Sabine Hack 6-1 6-1. In Madrid, the two most successful male clay-court players will meet in today's final. Spain's Sergi Bruguera, the French Open champion, advanced with a 7-6 6-2 semi-final win over his compatriot, Alex Corretja. Austria's Thomas Muster, who since 1990 has won more clay-court title than any other man - 15, beat Jaime Yzaga, of Peru, 6-0 5-7 6-3. Bruguera is the second most successful with 10.
