England were beaten 3-0 by the holders China today when bidding for a place in the semi-finals of the World Team Cup at Nimes. Alan Cook and Carl Prean fought strongly in the first and second matches but the Chinese were in command. Chen Xinhua kept English hopes alive in the final game as he tested his former doubles partner Wang Hao. But Wang came back from deficits of 18-19 in the first game and 9-14 in the second to win 22-20 21-16.
