Mark Foster, who lost his 50 metres freestyle short-course world mark to Alexander Popov last Sunday, equalled the 50 metres butterfly world best short-course time of 23.72sec he set in the same Gelsenkirchen pool in February last year. Popov, the Olympic champion from Russia, broke the men's 100 metres freestyle short-course world record for the fourth time this year at the same World Cup meet in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
