Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Birmingham City plan to parade two £1m signings before today's Endsleigh League Second Division match at home to Leyton Orient.

The club's owner, the publisher, David Sullivan, has agreed fees for two players - believed to be a striker and a defender. "We fully anticipate that these players will sign on the pitch before tomorrow's game," he said last night. "One of the players will really shock everybody." City had earlier pulled out of deals for the Stockport striker, Kevin Francis, and Ricky Otto, who has been transfer listed by Southend after failing to agree a new contract.

Bristol City have signed Richard Dryden, the Birmingham defender, in a £200,000 deal. Wolves are set to sign the former England midfielder, Gordon Cowans, from Derby County on Monday. The clubs have agreed a £20,000 fee with a further £10,000 payable if the 36-year-old plays 30 games for the Molineux club.
