Cassie Jackman, the former World Junior Champion from Norfolk, became the second English player within three weeks to reach a World Open final when she beat Gloucestershire's Fiona Geaves in straight games in Guernsey yesterday, writes James Leigh from St Peter Port. The 21-year-old thus earned herself a meeting today with the world champion, Australia's Michelle Martin. Jackman defeated Geaves 9-4 9-1 9-2 in only 34 minutes, while Martin took half an hour to dispose of Suzanne Horner, the British national champion, 9-4 9-4 9-6. When Jackman plays today she will be following the achievement of Peter Marshall, who last month became the first British man to reach a World Open final.
