Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. One of the highlights of the fencing calendar takes place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre tomorrow when Britain hosts a round of the Eden Cup, the World Cup series foil competition for under- 20 men. The Italians look favourites in this A-grade event as they field the world Nos 1, 3 and 4 in their 11-man squad, if only to reverse last year's result. In 1992, Italy had seven fencers in the quarter- finals, but Tobias Darnstadt, of Germany, prevailed to win first place. This season, the Germans trail Italy, France and Denmark in the rankings. Harry Lancaster, the Sussex House club fencer ranked 19th in the world, looks the strongest British prospect and will want to improve on Britain's placings last year.
How to get there: Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Ledrington Road, London SE19. British Rail: London Victoria to Crystal Palace, the station is adjacent to Centre. Fencing starts at 9.30am, with the quarter-finals from 5pm. Spectating is free. (Tel: 081-778 0131).
