Your support makes all the difference.The European Championships start at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham today and not since the World Championships in 1977 have so many top-class players gathered in England. The majority of the world's leading players come from Europe, including Jean-Philippe Gatien, the men's individual world champion from France. The 11- day tournament opens with the team event and England's men will look for an improvement on the two silver medals and one bronze won at the last three championships. Tickets are still available for tonight's opening ceremony at 6.15pm.
How to get there: National Indoor Arena, King Edward's Road, Birmingham. Junction six of M6 and the Arena is signposted from the A38(M). 10am start today, tomorrow and Sunday. Admission: pounds 7 adults, pounds 4.50 children. (Tel: 021- 200 2202. Box Office 021-200 2222).
