Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The 10th round of the Gulf Oils / RAC British Hill Climb Championship at Harewood, Yorkshire, on Sunday promises a feast of speed and David Grace, the British champion, has to make his mark to cut Mark Colton's 11pt lead in this year's competition. Grace, who drives a 3.5-litre Pilbeam, won at Harewood last year and if his runs on the hill are successful against the 3.5-litre Roman of Colton, the championship may not be decided until the final round at Doune in September. Among the Harewood regulars is Michael Holroyd, who beat all the Ferraris in his Mini Cooper S at the last meeting.
How to get there: Harewood Hillclimb, Stockton Farm, is 7 1/2 miles north-east of Leeds on A659 between Harewood village and Collingham. Practice from noon tomorrow; first timed run 11.15am on Sunday. Admission: pounds 5 adults, children free. (Tel: 0532-886391).
