Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This weekend Britain stages the first husky racing competition, organised by the British Sled Dog Racing Association. The opening round of the Labatt's Husky Rally Championship series of six races takes place at Brandon Park, on the Norfolk- Suffolk border, where more than 100 teams of dogs and drivers will compete on forest trails over courses between three and eight miles depending on number of huskies in a team. The terrain is flat and should the present cold conditions continue, the huskies will perform more efficiently, pulling wheeled rigs if the ground is dry, but reverting to sleds if more wintery conditions prevail.
How to get there: Brandon Park, Brandon, Suffolk, is on A1065 north of Mildenhall. Leave A11 at Barton Mills, north-east of Newmarket. Starting times (teams leave at three- minute intervals): B class (4-6 dogs): 9am tomorrow, 8.30am Sunday. C class (3 or 4 dogs): 10.15am and 9.45; D class (2 dogs): 12.45pm and 12.15. Racing finishes at 3.30 tomorrow and 3pm on Sunday.
