The Market Bosworth triathlon goes from strength to strength. In only its third year, the event is the final qualifying race for age group places in Britain's team for the World Championships, which take place in Manchester in August. Competition will be fierce in each five-year category. The event also combines four races in one; apart from the grand prix and world championship qualifying, Market Bosworth is the setting for the British inter-regional championship and the local East Midlands championship. The race opens with a 1500 metres swim in an open, artificial lake, where the 450 entrants set out in three waves; the 40-kilometre cycle ride takes the field out to the villages of Sibson (B585, A444) and Twycross (A444) before returning to Market Bosworth. The 10km run completes the event with a final lap of the lake.

How to get there: Market Bosworth Water Trust is south of the Leicestershire town. Admission to the Trust is pounds 1 per car. Race starts at 9.30am. (Tel: 0455-291876).
